Mahallah Sumayyah was officially occupied by students in February 1997 for Semester 2, 1997/1998 session.Students of Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences (KENMS) have been specially chosen to be the first residents of Mahallah Sumayyah.
Sumayyah refers to the first female martyr or syahidah in the history of Islam. May her spirit, determination and commitment to Islam transcends to all residents of Mahallah Sumayyah.

Corresponds to the logo of IIUM which indicates that Mahallah Sumayyah is part of IIUM.
It also represents the Islamic environment existing in Mahallah Sumayyah

Is the official colour of Mahallah Sumayyah. It stands for peace, harmony and tranquility.
- Red
Symbolised the resoluteness and brevity of the residents of Mahallah Sumayyah.
- Yellow
Represents the light of Iman.
- White
Symbolised purify, integrity and sincerity.

It also implies that we are always thoughtful in our dealing. We do not make hasty decisions.

This portrays both the inner and outer beauties of the residents. Inner beauty comprises good
personality, high morally (akhlaq) and positive attitudes which reflect the true islamic teachings.
The qualities of inner beauty transform the surrounding atmosphere and create the outer beauty
thus making an Islamic environment within our college.
